Country Cafe - Granbury, TX (GDJ)
Try the "Country Corner Susan's Sweets" restaurant in Granbury about three miles from the airport. Take the airport courtesy car. Leaving the airport turn left on Pearl, then left on Hannaford. The restaurant sits katy-corner from the Decker Gym.  Prices for Breakfast $3.50-$5. Lunch $5-$7. For breakfast try the ham and pepper omelet (best I ever had!). Lunch any sandwich on the onion or wheat bun. Top it off with Apple cobbler covered with vanilla ice-cream. Also the Rocky Road cookies YUM!

 

Dallas Air Park Food Shopping Etc - Plano, TX (F69)
The best $100.00 Hamburger stop ever! There are at least 40 restaurants within a 3-5 min walk of the Northwest transient ramp. WIllow bend Shopping mall is across the street. Home Depot and Costco are all adjacent to the Airport property. Christina's Mexican, Moo-yaa's Burger's, Pei-Wei, you name it, it's there. and you can even go shopping at Neiman's Right traffic to 34. Pattern Alt is 1200. Listen to Addison arrival instructions on 133.4, and do what they say. Contact Addison 126.00 before and they will hand you off to the unicom 122.9.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center - Glen Rose, TX (F55)
Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a wildlife conservation facility that focuses on southern African rhino, cheetahs and Texas' own Attwater's Prairie Chicken. Safari Camp offers seven secluded tent cabins to spend the night, with AC, heat and private baths. See the website for more info. What won't be on the site is the awesome burgers offered at their Overlook Cafe. A half pound of 100% angus beef on a toasted Kaiser roll. With the best view in town!

The best BBQ in Texas!!! A fun place to fly into. Look for the golfcarts at the office and follow the dirt road to Hard Eight for some fall off the bone ribs or brisket.

 

 

Kezer Air Ranch - Springtown, TX (61TE)
Wild Onion restaurant 5 minute walk from neatly manicured asphalt runway (16/34) - 2400 feet long. Surrounded by live oaks. Restaurant is west of the south end of the runway. Follow road on the south end of the runway. Chicken fried steak, wild onion blossoms, chili, grilled quail, catfish, frog legs, pies.

A really nice airport and a short walk to the Redbarn Cafe, which is just across the street from the airport. Friendly folks and a great burger! The airport has a beautiful approach over a lake and a really nice FBO.

Rio Concho Aviation Cafe - Fort Worth, TX (T67)
If you're ever in North Texas, you have got to drop and see this place. It's Rio Concho Aviation Cafe, located at Hicks Airfield, in Fort Worth, Texas. They have fuel, tiedowns, a terminal lounge, charters, catering, pilot supplies, restrooms and a wonderful old time fifties style restaurant.

SkyLine Cafe - Tyler, TX (KTYR)
Becky Kalmowitz has a new restaurant at the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport! She will serve lunch and breakfast, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. American-style sandwiches and salads and will offer something for everyone, including a junk food junkie menu, as well as options for the health conscious. Her menu will have everyone covered from the women watching their weight with low-fat salads to the men who want a big juicy burger and fries. She promises to have the best of both worlds. She also plans to bring back the renowned pounder burger, which she will call the belly buster a 1-pound hamburger with an option of 1 pound of fries to go along with it. She said she is trying to bring back the nostalgia of the 1-pound burger, which has been requested by several people. But her belly buster will come with a twist a homemade 10 to 12 inch bun. Here's their menu!   The  Historic Aviation Memorial Museum is next door to the restaurant.

Echo Canyon Resort - Sulphur, OK (F30)
The brochure accurately describes this wonderful place as A beautiful resort specializing in romantic luxury lodging and fine dining. It is located on 30 acres in the Arbuckle Mountains, and is owned and beautifully managed by Joe and Carol Vanhorn, two of the finest folks you will ever meet. I have spent a weekend in this wonderful property, and I highly recomment Echo Canyon Resort. I have also flown to the resort to enjoy Carol's wonderful breakfast. If you call ahead, Carol or Joe will have you picked up at the airport by one of their friendly staff. Give them a call.

Vintage Flying Museum - Ft Worth, TX (FTW)
A very nice museum located at the south end of Ft Worth Meacham International Airport. They house about a dozen aircraft housed in a World War Two B-29 Hangar. The centerpiece of the collection is a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress. They are open on weekends. If you want to come during the week call ahead. They host a warbird fly in every June. And they have a wonderful 1940's big band hangar dance every October. It is really neat to see a full big band set up under the nose of the B-17
